Job Title: University Ambassador
Purpose: University Ambassadors represent the University of South Carolina by welcoming visitors to campus and sharing information about the University’s history, programs, opportunities, and resources. Ambassadors help create a positive and memorable first impression for prospective students, families, and guests.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: University Ambassadors serve as the “front door” of the University, providing a warm, informative, and professional experience for a diverse range of visitors. Responsibilities include leading campus tours, supporting recruitment efforts for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and helping visitors better understand USC in order to make an informed decision about their college choice. Ambassadors participate in required training, professional development, and periodic performance evaluations.
Collaboration and Relationships: University Ambassadors are accountable to the Visitor Center staff, fellow Ambassadors, and the University of South Carolina.
Ambassadors work closely with Visitor Center staff, fellow Ambassadors, and campus partners to provide accurate information and exceptional customer service in support of the Visitor Center’s mission.
Time Commitment : Ambassadors serve a minimum of four (4) semesters of service. During the academic year, Ambassadors typically work 3–6 hours per week and attend a weekly 1-hour training/professional development session. New Ambassadors will complete an additional hour of training each week for a designated period during their first year.
Training and Professional Development: Training is led by Visitor Center staff and experienced Ambassadors and includes customer service, professionalism, public speaking, campus tour protocols, University history and facts, and operational policies. All training aligns with the mission and values of the Visitor Center & the University of South Carolina.
Importance of the Role: University Ambassadors play a key role in USC’s recruitment and outreach efforts by providing an authentic, engaging, and informative campus experience.
