Job Title: University Ambassador
Purpose: University Ambassadors are responsible for representing the University, its history, opportunities, attributes, benefits, and services when welcoming visitors to campus. Acting as Ambassadors for the University, you will be involved in warmly welcoming campus visitors, especially prospective students and parents, and working to establish a quality first impression.
Major Duties and Tasks: Ambassadors serve as the “front door” of the University of South Carolina, providing a welcoming and informative first impression to a diverse group of University constituents. As representatives for the University of South Carolina, University Ambassadors serve as tour guides to assist a variety of visitors in learning more about the institution, and to encourage prospective students and their families to make an informed decision about their college choice. Ambassadors also participate in significant training and professional development activities, as well as periodic performance reviews. Ambassadors support the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in recruitment of prospective students.
Accountability: Ambassadors are accountable to all staff of the Visitor Center, fellow Ambassadors, and to the University of South Carolina.
Relationships: Ambassadors cooperate and collaborate with fellow University Ambassadors, the Visitor Center staff, and many University departments to meet the Visitor Center’s mission of providing up-to-date information and exceptional customer service to advance an understanding of programs, services, and vital resources.
Time and Commitment Required: University Ambassadors serve a minimum of four (4) semesters. Ambassadors can expect to spend three to six hours on tasks and commit to a weekly 1-hour training/professional development session during the 30 weeks of the regular school year (new team members will participate in 1 additional hour of professional development and training for a preset window of time during their first year of service).
Training & Professional Development: Training is offered by the Visitor Center staff and fellow Ambassadors. Training includes, but is not limited to, customer service, professional work ethics, etiquette, professional presentation skill development, campus tour protocols, University facts and history, and general operational policies. This training reflects the mission of the Visitor Center and the University of South Carolina.
Importance of Job: University Ambassadors are an integral part of the University’s recruitment and marketing strategy. Ambassadors serve as representatives of the University by providing a complete and authentic first impression of the campus.
Minimum Requirements:

Be a current USC undergraduate student.

Be enrolled in courses full time.

Have a minimum GPA of 2.75

Availability to participate in training and professional development from 6-8:30 pm on Wednesdays.

Possess an understanding of the University of South Carolina and its programs.
